Songpa-gu Provides Love Rice Support to Elderly Living Alone in COVID-19 Crisis
Songpa-gu SK Love Love Volunteer Group, Practicing Community Love Sharing
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seongsu) announced on the 3rd that the Songpa-gu SK Love Love Volunteer Group delivered 560kg of "Love Rice" to elderly people living alone who are struggling financially.
The Seoul SK Knights basketball team donates 40kg of "Love Rice" for every win recorded in the regular league games. Out of the 1,120kg of rice accumulated this season with 28 wins, 50%, or 560kg, was delivered to 56 households of elderly people living alone.
The Songpa-gu SK Love Love Volunteer Group (Chief Director Jung Seoyul) is affiliated with the Songpa-gu Volunteer Center and was formed in 2008 through an agreement between Songpa-gu and the SK Knights basketball team. Since 2008, they have been conducting volunteer activities by delivering funds and goods raised through the Love Fund campaign during the basketball team's season games to vulnerable groups.
In 2019, the SK Love Love Volunteer Group, along with volunteers, delivered a total of 500kg of rice to 50 vulnerable households. They also provided free basketball game tickets to local children's centers and repaired aging local children's centers.
The district plans to continue collaborating with the SK Love Love Volunteer Group to promote various volunteer activities, including supporting scholarships for youth from socially marginalized groups.

Park Seongsu, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "I hope this activity helps elderly people living alone overcome the difficulties of COVID-19," and added, "I thank the SK Love Love Volunteer Group for practicing neighborly love through warm donations, and we will strive to provide administrative support to further activate meaningful volunteer activities for our neighbors."
