[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) announced that Mayor Lee Dong-jin was elected as the 2nd president of the Korean Human Rights Cities Council at the regular general meeting held on June 1 at the Seongbuk-gu Office Future Planning Office.
The "Korean Human Rights Cities Council" is a human rights consultative body among local governments nationwide based on policy exchange and mutual cooperation to promote human rights protection.
It was launched in 2017 with 25 member cities, and as of 2020, 22 local governments are cooperating to realize human rights cities.
At this regular general meeting, a new president to lead the Korean Human Rights Cities Council for the next two years was elected, and discussions were held on sharing human rights administration cases among local governments and ways to strengthen cooperation between local governments.
Mayor Lee said, "I will promote this while creating empathy with member cities to realize the purpose stated in the 'Founding Declaration of the Korean Human Rights Cities Council' when it was first launched," and added, "I hope the Human Rights Cities Council will unite and work together to mutually cooperate and promote what needs to be done jointly by the National Human Rights Commission, the government, and local governments to advance human rights."
Previously, the district enacted the Dobong-gu Human Rights Ordinance in 2013 and has been actively promoting human rights policies. In 2017, the 1st Basic Plan for Dobong-gu Human Rights Policy (2018?2020) was established, focusing on building a foundation for human rights administration.

In particular, on May 2 last year, the Dobong-gu Human Rights Ordinance was completely revised, and on October 31, the Dobong-gu Human Rights Center was opened as a dedicated organization for remedying human rights violations, making efforts to realize a human rights city.
