Seongdong-gu Hosts 'Pet Video Contest' to Promote Pet Culture Communication with Pet Video Uploads... Submissions Accepted Throughout June, Top Prize 500,000 KRW, Winning Entries Used as Promotional Videos
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is hosting a "Video Contest with Companion Animals" throughout June to foster a companion animal culture with direct resident participation.
As the number of animal registrations in Seongdong-gu surged nearly 50% from 8,428 in 2018 to 12,722 by the end of last year, the district established a dedicated team called the "Companion Animal Policy Team" in January to create a happy companion culture and is promoting various related projects such as the "Companion Animal Behavior Correction Program."
This time, the district has prepared the "Video Contest with Companion Animals," where owners can upload videos they shoot themselves sharing know-how and educational methods, enabling direct communication between pet owners and non-pet owners.
The theme includes any videos related to companion animal culture creation, such as companion animal education methods and videos showing owners' consideration in different situations and places. Anyone interested can apply, and the types of companion animals are limited to dogs and cats.
A district official said, "The purpose of this contest is to promote and raise awareness of a culture of living with companion animals through videos made directly by owners. Although we are conducting various educational and support projects related to companion animals, we believe that sharing know-how and knowledge gained by residents raising companion animals themselves will have a greater ripple effect in spreading a proper companion culture."
To apply, participants should post a video of up to 3 minutes in any format on their personal YouTube or blog account, and submit the application form, pledge, and original video file via email (pet1234@sd.go.kr) between June 1 and June 30.
Videos posted on personal accounts will receive additional points based on exposure frequency, and those without accounts can still participate by submitting video files they personally recorded.
Winners will be announced in July after judging by a panel, with top prizes of up to 500,000 KRW awarded. Winning videos will be used for education and promotion as part of Seongdong-gu's companion animal policy resident participation videos.
