President Moon and Prime Minister Chung Weekly Meeting... "Preparing Summer Public Safety Measures"
'Emphasis on Operator Responsibility Efforts Such as Strict Compliance with Quarantine Rules in High-Risk Group Infection Workplaces'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] On the 1st, President Moon Jae-in emphasized the responsible efforts of operators, including strict compliance with quarantine rules at workplaces vulnerable to COVID-19 cluster infections, during his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, President Moon and Prime Minister Chung held a weekly meeting at the Blue House on the day to comprehensively review the COVID-19 quarantine situation, including responses to cluster infections in the metropolitan area, and exchanged opinions on summer public safety measures.
First, Prime Minister Chung reported to the President on ▲responses to cluster infections in the metropolitan area originating from logistics centers ▲management of high-risk facilities such as the introduction of electronic entry logs using QR codes ▲and summer lifestyle quarantine measures.
In response, President Moon emphasized, "We must remain vigilant in responding to the continuing cluster infections in the metropolitan area, but since the possibility of cluster infections always exists in the context of social distancing in daily life, strict compliance with quarantine rules by individuals and businesses, as individual economic agents, is essential."
He particularly pointed out, "In the case of logistics centers where cluster infections occurred, there are criticisms that 'despite being workplaces inherently vulnerable to infection due to many people working together and overlapping movement paths, quarantine rules were not properly followed,'" and urged, "To prevent the recurrence of such cluster infections in the future, please prepare management measures through thorough inspections not only of logistics centers but also of workplaces with similar working environments."
President Moon and Prime Minister Chung also discussed public safety measures in preparation for the upcoming summer season.
They agreed that since this summer's temperatures are expected to be higher than average with an increase in heatwave days, comprehensive measures are needed to prepare for natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rains, as well as protection for vulnerable groups and power supply issues.
Accordingly, the government plans to soon implement comprehensive summer public safety measures, including quarantine measures for air conditioner use during summer and for tourist destinations and facilities during the vacation season, prepared jointly by relevant ministries.
Meanwhile, regarding the opening of the 21st National Assembly, President Moon exchanged views with Prime Minister Chung on the prompt passage of key bills and the processing of the third supplementary budget (supplementary budget).
President Moon also mentioned the importance of the swift amendment of laws such as the Government Organization Act for upgrading the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to an agency, the National Assembly Act for the launch of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) in July, and the Personnel Hearing Act. He expressed hope that the third supplementary budget bill could be processed within June.
