Partial Passers of Architect Exam Can Now Retake Freely Up to 5 Times Within 5 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Chun-hee] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 2nd that the 'Architect Act Enforcement Decree,' which includes adjustments to the exemption period for those who have passed certain subjects following the expansion of the architect qualification exam from once a year to twice a year starting this year, has passed the Cabinet meeting.
Until last year, the architect qualification exam was held once a year. If a candidate passed some of the three subjects, they were exempted from taking the exam for those subjects in the next five consecutive exams.
However, with the exam increasing to twice a year starting this year, the exemption period for those who passed certain subjects was shortened from the existing five years to two and a half years, raising concerns that the burden on examinees would increase.
Facing criticism that this could be unreasonable, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport adjusted the exemption period for each subject from the previous five consecutive exams to 'five exams within five years,' so that the existing exemption period and number of exemptions would not change.
Additionally, those who cancel their exam registration or are absent on the exam day are excluded from the calculation of exemption counts, minimizing confusion for examinees and maximizing convenience.
This revision will take effect from the date of promulgation after being published in the official gazette. The same standards will also apply to those who passed certain subjects from 2015 to last year.
