Seocho-gu Distributes Senior-Exclusive Kiosk Education System Across Seoul
Support for Kiosk Education Programs to Bridge Digital Information Gap at Seoul Municipal and District Senior Welfare Centers... On the 27th, Seocho-gu and Seoul Senior Welfare Center Association Sign MOU to Promote Senior Welfare
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) has decided to collaborate with the Seoul Senior Welfare Center Association to promote elderly welfare, including supporting educational programs to bridge the digital information gap among seniors.
On the 27th, the district signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the promotion of elderly welfare with the ‘Sanohyeop’ at the Seocho Central Senior Welfare Center. They agreed to cooperate on supporting the ‘Senior-Exclusive Kiosk Education System,’ which was independently developed for the first time nationwide, to be implemented in 32 senior welfare centers across Seoul and its autonomous districts.
So far, the district has been carrying out various Smart Senior projects, such as establishing the ‘Smart Senior IT Experience Zone,’ to help seniors easily and confidently engage with new technologies in daily life amid the digital environment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
Recognizing that seniors face significant difficulties with unmanned devices (kiosks) in real life, the district developed the kiosk education system ‘Seocho Toktok C,’ which integrates unmanned device systems installed in cafes, fast-food restaurants, hospitals, and more into one platform, and has completed patent registration.
Since September last year, over 1,500 people have received education at 23 locations within the region. The program was selected as an excellent case at the ‘2020 Information Gap Reduction Support Metropolitan Local Government Business Briefing’ and has become a benchmarking target for various local governments and public institutions.
Last month, the district signed an MOU with the National Information Society Agency to cooperate in spreading educational content within 33 senior informatization education institutions nationwide.
The ‘Sanohyeop,’ which signed the MOU with the district, was established to improve seniors’ rights and promote social integration through elderly welfare policy development and professional education for elderly welfare practitioners. Currently, 46 municipal and district senior welfare centers located in Seoul are members.
With the support of the district’s kiosk education system, digital education for seniors is expected to proceed more smoothly throughout Seoul.
The educational programs are scheduled to be implemented from the second half of the year after the COVID-19 situation stabilizes, depending on the opening status of each senior welfare center.
