Online Mental Health Special Lecture by Dr. Kim Hyunsoo Opens on the 4th... Expansion of Regular Courses Including Essay Writing, Myeongrihak Saju Learning, Pen Drawing, Cooking Classes, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) announced that the Geumcheon 50 Plus Center will open and operate various online courses on hobbies, mental health, and more for the 50+ generation suffering from depression due to practicing social distancing amid the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The ‘Geumcheon 50 Plus Center’ has been operating various online courses since April 21 before its opening, as the opening was postponed twice to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In response to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, it was decided to expand the previously pilot non-face-to-face online courses.
Accordingly, the first semester regular courses that were postponed due to COVID-19, such as essay writing, learning Myungrihak (Four Pillars of Destiny), pen drawing, and healthy cooking classes, will be operated online until the center opens, and will be converted to on-site courses after the opening.
In particular, in addition to the regular courses, a special lecture titled ‘COVID-19 Stress, Comforting the Weary Mind’ by Dr. Kim Hyunsoo, head of the Seoul COVID-19 Psychological Support Team, will be newly added.
Dr. Kim Hyunsoo’s special lecture will be held on June 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., covering ▲risks to know about COVID-19 ▲counseling cases from the psychological support team △psychological stability support for ‘confirmed patients, families, and those who experienced quarantine’ ▲stress relief practices, and other mental health-related information through a real-time online lecture. Participants can communicate with the instructor via comments during the lecture, and a Q&A session will be provided afterward to address any questions.
Anyone in the 50+ generation who wishes to understand the socio-psychological phenomena caused by COVID-19 and hopes to return to a safe and comfortable daily life can participate.
Additionally, the regular courses include ‘Essay Writing,’ which will be held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. from June 2 to July 7, with instructor Yoo Youngseon (CEO of Bycrology) teaching writing theory and practice in a total of 6 sessions,
‘Learning Myungrihak (Four Pillars of Destiny)’ from June 11 to August 27 every Thursday at 10 a.m., with instructor Kim Changtae covering basic theory and participant’s fate chart interpretation in 12 sessions,
‘Pen Drawing’ from June 12 to August 14 every Friday at 10 a.m., with instructor Park Kwanghee (Studio CEO) teaching theory and practice of expressing three-dimensional shapes, objects, and landscapes in 10 sessions,
and ‘Healthy Cooking Class’ from June 15 to 29 every Monday at 1 p.m., with instructor Lee Seungjin (CEO of Barun Food Culture Development Institute Gunpo Branch) conducting 3 sessions on topics such as theory on hypertension and diabetes, low-sodium diet practice, and making natural seasonings.
Each course is accessible through ‘Naver Band’ and conducted with interactive communication methods including attendance checks, quizzes, and real-time Q&A.
Residents wishing to enroll in courses can apply through the ‘Geumcheon 50 Plus Center’ website. Program consultations are also continuously available at the 50+ Dudream & Cafe information desk on the first floor of the center located in Doksan 1-dong (22 Beoman-ro 17-gil).
