Pohang City Supports Daily Laborers' Wages at SME Construction Sites... "Nation's First Win-Win Case"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 31st that it will be the first local government in the country to promote the 'Daily Worker Wage Support Project' to encourage early commencement of various projects for small and medium-sized enterprises struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Starting from June 4, this project is a program that supports 70% of the labor costs (up to 84,000 KRW per person per day) for small and medium-sized enterprises in Pohang that newly hire daily workers to build new or expand, or renovate various buildings. Participating daily workers must also have their residence registered in Pohang City as of the employment date.
This project will be officially announced on June 1 on the Pohang City and Gyeongbuk Economic Promotion Agency websites. Companies wishing to participate can apply by visiting the Eastern Branch of the Gyeongbuk Economic Promotion Agency with a business plan and required documents.

Mayor Kangdeok Lee of Pohang said, "By reducing the labor cost burden for local small and medium-sized enterprises, we aim to encourage early commencement of various projects, which will provide more jobs to daily workers who are currently unemployed. We expect this to greatly help stabilize daily workers' income and strengthen the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises."
