India reports 7,964 new COVID-19 cases and 265 deaths

According to the Indian Ministry of Health, as of this date, the number of new COVID-19 cases in India was 7,964, and the daily death toll was 265, both setting record highs. The cumulative confirmed cases in India rose to 173,763, and deaths increased to 4,971.

The daily number of confirmed cases exceeded 7,000 for two consecutive days, following 7,466 cases the previous day. The death toll increased by 90 from 175 the day before. Recently, the Indian government, concerned about the economic impact, has been easing lockdown measures and increasing testing, leading to a rapid surge in confirmed cases.
