'Strong Response' EBS Files Complaints Against 2 Illegal 'Pengsoo' Merchandise Distributors... 9 Cases Detected So Far
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Hee-eun Park] EBS has filed a criminal complaint for copyright infringement against companies distributing illegal products using its character 'Pengsoo.'
On the 29th, EBS (President Kim Myung-jung) announced, "We have filed complaints against two companies that imported hundreds of Pengsoo plush dolls and mobile accessories using our character without permission from the copyright holder, EBS, for the purpose of sale."
EBS detected the companies violating Article 124 (Acts Considered Infringement) of the Copyright Act through the Incheon Main Customs Office.
The Incheon Main Customs Office and Seoul Main Customs Office are working with EBS to crack down on illegal imports of products using Pengsoo. So far, they have identified a total of nine cases of illegal imports.
An EBS copyright official stated, "In the future, EBS plans to take strong measures, including civil and criminal actions, against illegal distribution companies and manufacturers when copyright infringement cases are detected."
