Traffic Flow at Busan Seomyeon Intersection to Change Dramatically
Busan City to Completely Revamp Traffic Signal System from the 30th ... Traffic Congestion Expected to Improve by 42%
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] To improve vehicle flow and public transportation convenience in the Seomyeon area of Busan, the traffic system at Seomyeon Intersection will be completely changed starting at 4 a.m. on the 30th.
Busan City announced on the 29th that after monitoring for four months following the opening of the BRT from Dongnae to Seomyeon at the end of last year, the need to improve the signal system was raised. After consultations with related organizations including the Busan Police Agency, the signal operation system at Seomyeon Intersection will be fully improved.
Previously, when buses operated toward Choeup direction, there was a conflict with general vehicles turning left toward Julae direction. Because of this, traffic signals for bus lanes and general lanes were operated separately, causing inconvenience.
By partially adjusting eight bus routes toward Choeup direction, the signal system will be changed so that buses and general vehicles can turn left with the same signal, aiming to improve vehicle flow around Seomyeon Intersection and enhance bus operation conditions.
Among the eight routes being adjusted, routes 81 and 83 will turn left from Seomyeon KEPCO to Gaya-daero; route 83 will make a loop around Bujeon Market via Busanjin Police Station, and route 81 will pass through Buam Intersection and be adjusted toward Choeup direction at Busanjin District Office.
Routes 66, 88, and 83-1 will loop around Bujeon Market and head toward Choeup direction through Seomyeon Intersection at NC Department Store; routes 54, 103, and 133 will change from Beomnaegol via NC Department Store to Seomyeon Intersection toward Choeup direction.
The traffic congestion caused by the additional operation of routes 54, 103, and 133 on Dongcheon-ro in front of NC Department Store will also be improved. Existing routes 52 and 99 will be rerouted from Dongcheon-ro to Jungang-daero to enhance convenience for bus passengers using Jungang-daero.

Park Jin-ok, Director of the Busan City Transportation Bureau, said, “This measure is expected to improve traffic congestion at Seomyeon Intersection by about 42.9%. Even after the improvement, we will continue to monitor the situation and improve vehicle flow to optimize the signal system.”
