"Entering the Short-Form Content Market" LGU+ Playlist Join Hands
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] LG Uplus announced on the 28th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Playlist to develop 'short-form' content, which refers to short videos.
Playlist is a video content production company established in 2017 as a joint investment by Naver affiliates ‘Naver Webtoon’ and ‘Snow’. Its representative works such as ‘A-Teen’, ‘Love Playlist’, ‘The Best Ending’, and ‘XX’ have all recorded over 100 million views on YouTube. Last year, the cumulative views reached 2 billion. The average views per episode range from 2 million to 5 million, the highest among web drama channels. Web dramas are short-length ‘short-form content’ broadcast on online platforms such as Naver TV or YouTube. They are characterized by a length of less than 30 minutes optimized for smartphone viewing when going out and fast story development.
LG Uplus, noting that web dramas have strong influence mainly among people in their teens and twenties who prefer mobile content, plans to target young customers through joint production of 5G short-form content with Playlist, which has excellent capabilities in content production and planning in this field. The two companies will first combine LG Uplus’s VR and AR technologies with content produced by Playlist to jointly create various types of 5G content such as VR web dramas, AR music videos, and 3D PPL.

Furthermore, based on this, they will explore new media-based business opportunities such as commerce linked with web dramas and entertainment content in the mid to long term, and also promote overseas sales of self-produced original content. Son Ji-yoon, LG Uplus’s head of partnerships (Executive Director), stated, “Through collaboration with the top company in this field domestically, we will strengthen our 5G content competitiveness and secure original short-form content, which is expected to enhance platform awareness among the MZ generation for U+VR, U+AR, U+mobile TV, IPTV, and others.”
