Naju-si Holds Scaled-Down '65th Memorial Day Ceremony'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 27th that the ‘65th Memorial Day Ceremony’ to be held at the Citizens' Park Memorial Tower Square on the 6th of next month will be held with a reduced number of participants to prevent COVID-19.
This year’s ceremony will proceed with the national ceremony, a flower offering and incense burning ceremony honoring the noble sacrifice spirit of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes, memorial speeches, and the reading of commemorative poems.
The city minimized the number of attendees to about 40, including the mayor of Naju, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, heads of institutions, and heads of veterans' organizations, in accordance with measures to prepare for the recent resurgence of COVID-19 in the metropolitan area and social distancing guidelines.
Attendees will strictly adhere to COVID-19 prevention rules such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
Considering that most of the veterans' families and national merit recipients are elderly, the veterans' organizations agreed that they will not participate in this year’s ceremony to prioritize health and safety.
Although the number of participants in the memorial ceremony is reduced, the city plans to conduct the event with the utmost respect to honor the souls of the patriotic martyrs and national heroes who sacrificed nobly for the country.
General citizens other than attendees can individually visit the Memorial Tower and the Memorial Monument for the Loyal Spirits dispersedly from 7 to 8 a.m. on the day and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. after the ceremony.
