Gwangju City, Construction Workers' Retirement Allowance Application and Reception
From June 1 to December, at the 1st floor civil service counter
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 26th that, anticipating a surge in payment applications due to the relaxation of eligibility requirements for construction workers' retirement pension benefits, it will collaborate with the Construction Workers' Mutual Aid Association Gwangju Branch to accept applications for construction workers' retirement pension benefits at the civil service desk on the first floor of Gwangju City Hall from next month until December for the convenience of eligible recipients.
The construction workers' retirement pension is a legally guaranteed system that pays retirement pension benefits accumulated by employers based on the combined work records from multiple construction sites when construction workers, who frequently move between various sites, retire.
Until now, eligibility for payment was limited to those with at least 252 days of pension contributions or those aged 60 or older. Applications could only be made at the Construction Workers' Mutual Aid Association or post offices.
Following the amendment of the Construction Workers Act last year, the eligibility was expanded to include those with fewer than 252 days of pension contributions who are 65 years or older, or in cases where the insured person has passed away. Due to the relaxation of eligibility requirements, the estimated number of beneficiaries in the Gwangju area is approximately 23,000, with a statute of limitations of five years.
Construction workers aged 65 or older (born before May 7, 1955) who have worked at construction sites can check their accumulated mutual aid funds at the Construction Workers' Mutual Aid Association (1666-1133).
Meanwhile, starting from the 27th, applications for retirement pension benefits can be submitted at the Construction Workers' Mutual Aid Association Gwangju Branch, as well as seven other branches nationwide (Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon) and post offices nationwide (financial service counters). Retirement pension benefits will be paid within 14 days from the date of application.
