Governor Lee Cheol-woo of Gyeongbuk's Cooperation Model ... Launch of Mammoth-scale 'Beomdomin Promotion Committee'
Committee of 369 Representatives from Various Fields, Largest Ever
Autonomous Operation from Policy Proposal to Drafting and Implementation
Lee Cheol-woo "Crisis is Serious... Difficult with Administrative Power Alone"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do held the launch ceremony of the 'Pan-Provincial Promotion Committee,' which includes representatives from all sectors of the region, on the 25th, reaffirming its determination to proactively respond to the 'post-COVID-19 era.'
Co-chairpersons were appointed as Go Yoon-hwan, chairman of the Gyeongbuk Mayors and County Governors Council representing 23 cities and counties (Mayor of Mungyeong), Jo Jeong-moon, chairman of the Gyeongbuk Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council representing the economic sector, Hong Soon-im, chairwoman of the Gyeongbuk Women's Organizations Council representing women, and Ahn Se-geun, president of the 4-H Federation representing youth. The committee consists of 369 members, including representatives from the economic sector, academia, various institutions and organizations, research institutes, and the media, making it the largest ever.
The Pan-Provincial Promotion Committee will break away from the existing administrative committee framework and autonomously operate based on a system that proposes policies, drafts them, and executes them, leading initiatives such as improving the region’s image, revitalizing the economy, and future leap projects.
Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to unite the energy of its residents around the Pan-Provincial Promotion Committee and vigorously promote projects that will enable Gyeongbuk to make a leap forward in the post-COVID-19 era.
First, the committee will focus on changing the region’s negative image overshadowed by COVID-19 through campaigns such as the 'Clean & Safe Gyeongbuk Campaign,' which involves cleaning and disinfecting major tourist spots, terminals, and workplaces in the province; 'Improvement of Food Culture,' which encourages the habitual use of shared plates, ladles, and tongs; and celebrity marketing including star CFs.
Additionally, large-scale special sales events for agricultural and specialty products and support campaigns for online marketing of small and medium-sized enterprises’ products will be carried out. Over the next five years, about 60 billion KRW will be invested in a 'Preemptive Employment Stability Response Package,' along with the creation of a 57 billion KRW innovation fund and a major overhaul of industrial complexes to invigorate the local economy.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo explained the background of the committee’s launch, saying, "The reality surrounding Gyeongbuk is very difficult, with population decline and weakening economic momentum, compounded recently by COVID-19, leading to a serious crisis. It has become difficult to overcome the damage caused by COVID-19 and achieve a new leap forward with administrative power alone."
