Yeongdeungpo-gu Expands 'Nanum Sangja' to All Neighborhoods!
Donation of reusable items such as books, home appliances, toys, and tools... Enhancing entrance transparency for visibility... Establishing ice pack collection bins... Actively responding to environmental pollution caused by increased fresh delivery
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chaehyunil) is installing one ‘Open Sharing Box’ in each neighborhood to donate unused items, helping the virtuous cycle of resources and realizing the value of sharing.
The ‘Open Sharing Box’ is a space where anyone can freely take items by placing unused idle goods from their homes.
After installing and piloting the boxes in six neighborhoods last year, the district saw a high usage rate of over 30 cases per month per location, leading to expansion across all neighborhoods.
The ‘Open Sharing Box’ will be newly installed in 11 neighborhood community centers, and the one at the currently under-construction Singil 4-dong Community Center will be set up in line with its completion.
Thus, the district plans to install one sharing box in each of the total 18 neighborhoods by the end of the year, offering residents a unique joy of bartering.
Books, home appliances, toys, tools, and any reusable items can be placed in the sharing boxes. However, worn-out or broken items that are difficult to use, food, flammable materials, or items prone to spoilage or danger are not allowed.
The Open Sharing Boxes are made of stainless steel, making them resistant to rust, and their transparent entrances allow easy visibility of the items inside from the outside.
Notably, one compartment of the newly created sharing boxes will be designed as an ‘Ice Pack Collection Box,’ expected to play a significant role in environmental protection.
Recently, with the increase in online shopping for fresh products, the use of ice packs has risen, but since ice packs do not fully combust, there is a high risk of environmental pollution.
Accordingly, the district has produced dedicated collection boxes to increase the recycling rate of ice packs. The ice packs collected at local self-sufficiency centers will be distributed free of charge to places in need, such as traditional market merchant associations.
