[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Landowners who illegally changed the use of buildings or used land as farmland without permission in the development-restricted areas of Namdong-gu, Incheon, have been caught in large numbers.
The Incheon Special Judicial Police announced on the 24th that they conducted intensive crackdowns over two months from March targeting development-restricted areas in Namdong-gu, including Dorim-dong and Jangsu-dong, and have non-custodially booked six people, including landowner A (69), on charges of violating the Special Measures Act on the Designation and Management of Development-Restricted Areas.
A and others are suspected of unlawfully changing the use of agricultural vinyl greenhouses to warehouses or manufacturing facilities in the development-restricted areas of Namdong-gu from last year until recently.
Some of them also illegally installed containers or warehouses without permission within the development-restricted areas. Additionally, there were cases where vinyl greenhouses were installed and used as farmland on land designated as 'mountainous area' under relevant laws without obtaining conversion permits.
The city plans to transfer A and others to the prosecution and take strong measures such as imposing enforcement fines through the competent local government.
The development-restricted area in Namdong-gu, Incheon, covers 23.78㎢, accounting for 41% of the total development-restricted area in Incheon (71.81㎢).
