"Building Future Airports Together with the People"… Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Recruits Public Participation Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 24th that it will recruit a citizen participation group to directly participate in the establishment process of the 6th Comprehensive Airport Development Plan starting from the 26th.
The Comprehensive Airport Development Plan is the highest-level plan in the airport sector that prepares mid- to long-term airport infrastructure expansion and funding methods, and is established every five years. The 6th plan covers the period from 2021 to 2025 and includes matters related to airport development and operation.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been operating an Airport Policy Forum composed of airport sector experts and collecting various opinions from related organizations to establish the 6th plan.
In particular, it decided to operate a citizen participation group so that the public can directly participate in the planning process, propose policy directions, and build consensus.
Those who wish to participate in the citizen participation group can apply on the Korea Transport Institute website from the 26th until the 10th of next month. The Ministry will select a total of 50 people and hold two online meetings on the 27th of next month and July 11th.
In the first meeting, solutions to airport issues perceived by the public will be sought based on airport accessibility, immigration procedures, terminal congestion, and other issues raised as needing improvement in the nationwide survey conducted last February.
In the second meeting, discussions will be held on the future appearance of airports in response to technological advancements such as the miniaturization and personalization of aircraft, the introduction of smart technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), and climate change.
