Seoul City Issues Indefinite Closure Order for 569 Coin Karaoke Rooms in the City
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 22nd that it will issue an indefinite closure order for 569 coin karaoke rooms in the city.
Owners and users of businesses that do not comply with the order may be reported. If a confirmed case of COVID-19 occurs at a business that fails to comply with the order, the city may claim damages from the owner, and the confirmed patient must bear their own medical expenses.
This guideline is in response to the fact that many adolescents frequently visit coin karaoke rooms and that multiple confirmed cases have recently occurred at these venues.
Seoul plans to inspect coin karaoke rooms from the 25th to the 31st in cooperation with local police stations and district offices. According to the city, 44% of the locations did not comply with quarantine guidelines.
Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul, stated, “Coin karaoke rooms are often operated unmanned and have poor ventilation, making it difficult to properly manage according to quarantine guidelines, so we are issuing an administrative order. We also hope that general karaoke rooms will strengthen their quarantine management.”
