[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong) held a “2030 Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan and 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Basic Plan Research Service Joint Citizen Briefing” on the 21st at the city hall conference room.
The tourism industry is a strategic industry that will lead Yeosu’s next 100 years. Yeosu City plans to establish a comprehensive tourism development plan that includes a diagnosis of the current situation and a future vision for tourism, and to solidify the foundation for a successful second leap forward through the basic plan research service for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo.
According to the city, ahead of the final report meetings for the two services containing the city’s biggest issues, the briefing was held to enhance the completeness of the services by collecting diverse opinions from citizens.
The briefing was significantly scaled down in accordance with COVID-19 social distancing measures, with 77 attendees including Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, citizens, and public officials. The event proceeded in the order of the mayor’s greeting, service report, Q&A, and opinion collection.
First, the Yeosu City Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan reported on the diagnosis of the current status of Yeosu tourism, tourism environment outlook, future vision and promotion strategies, and detailed project implementation plans by sector linked to the mid- to long-term plan.
Next, the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Basic Plan explained the justification for hosting and the progress of the service, and introduced plans to operate the Dolsan Jinmo district as the main venue and subsidiary venues on major key islands tailored to regional characteristics.
The city announced that it plans to submit the international event hosting plan jointly with Jeollanam-do to the Ministry of Economy and Finance by the end of this year and complete international event approval next year.
Mayor Kwon Oh-bong stated, “The tourism industry is our city’s future food source,” and added, “We will reflect citizens’ opinions and thoughts well through today’s service briefing, which contains our city’s issues.”
