A 9.9MW Scale Power Generation 'Cogeneration Plant' to Be Built in Yeonggwang
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seongseong] A power plant producing 9.9 MW of electricity will be built in Yeonggwang, Jeonnam.
Yeonggwang Combined Heat and Power Co., Ltd. announced on the 22nd that it held a groundbreaking ceremony and safety prayer ceremony for the construction of an SRF (Solid Refuse Fuel) power plant at Seongsan-ri, Hongnong-eup on the 20th.
About 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony, including Kim Sangpung, Chairman of Yeonggwang Combined Heat and Power Co., Ltd., Kim Jaehwan, President of Yeonggwang Combined Heat and Power Co., Ltd., Kang Daeseok, President of Renewable Energy, Kim Jeongcheol, President of Techross Water & Energy Co., Ltd., Baek Euiyeol, CEO of Techross Environmental Services Co., Ltd., affiliated company employees, and residents.
The SRF power plant, with a total project cost of 99 billion KRW, will undergo about two years of construction and enter commercial operation from June 2022.
On a building area of 9,158㎡, fuel supply facilities, furnaces, boilers, flue gas treatment facilities, and SRF manufacturing facilities will be installed.
The construction of the power plant is entrusted to Techross Water & Energy, a specialized environmental equipment company, operation is handled by Techross Environmental Services, and Shinhan Bank is the financial supervisor.
The Yeonggwang Combined Heat and Power Plant is not simply an incineration facility that burns waste, but combusts only fuel that meets the solid refuse fuel quality standards at a high temperature of 1200℃ to minimize pollutants.
In particular, it is a state-of-the-art eco-friendly power plant equipped with multiple stages of the latest air pollution prevention facilities, and is evaluated as a very safe power plant from environmental pollutants.
Once the power plant is fully operational, it is expected to have a significant ripple effect on the local economy with annual sales of around 30 billion KRW along with job creation for local residents.
The Yeonggwang Combined Heat and Power Plant also plans to realize social contributions through scholarship payments for nurturing local talent, various cultural events, and support projects for elderly living alone and low-income families.
Chairman Kim Sangpung said, “It is a state-of-the-art eco-friendly power plant perfectly equipped with multiple stages of the latest air pollution prevention facilities,” and added, “After about two years of construction and starting operation, many changes such as job creation are expected in the local community.”
To prevent COVID-19, all attendees underwent temperature checks before the event, wore masks, used hand sanitizer, recorded attendance, and sat with social distancing, complying with quarantine guidelines.
