[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution, investigating the accusation case against Shincheonji Church of Jesus (Shincheonji), which has been identified as the main culprit in the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has launched its first forced investigation.
The Criminal Division 6 of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Seung-dae) mobilized about 100 prosecutors and investigators on the morning of the 22nd to conduct raids and seizures targeting Shincheonji facilities nationwide.
It is known that Shincheonji-related facilities including the Gwacheon General Assembly Headquarters, Gapyeong Peace Palace, and locations in Busan, Gwangju, and Daejeon were included in this raid and seizure operation.
The prosecution is investigating a case in which the National Shincheonji Victims Solidarity (Jeonpiyeon) filed a complaint in February against Lee Man-hee, the 89-year-old Chairman of the Shincheonji General Assembly, for violating the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act and embezzlement and breach of trust under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
