[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Park Won-soon, Mayor of Seoul, praised and expressed gratitude to frontline public officials who are working hard at the forefront of COVID-19 prevention efforts.
On the 21st, Mayor Park sent an email to over 34,000 public officials across Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts, saying, "It has been four months since the first confirmed case, and your sacrifice and dedication have set a global standard for quarantine and are writing the history of a great city," adding, "Thanks to you, who steadfastly protected the unfamiliar and intense frontlines that no one had ever walked before."
He also stated, "In this national crisis, the administration has accurately identified and executed the role it must play for citizens," and added, "I am truly proud of Seoul’s advanced system and professional capabilities that you have built with your sweat and tears."
With new developments such as the Itaewon club cluster infection and the phased reopening of schools, he urged not to lower vigilance. Mayor Park said, "The possibility of cluster infections remains, and since phased school attendance has begun starting with third-year high school students, we must not let our guard down," and added, "I believe that with the strength we have built over the past four months, we will be able to wisely overcome both big and small crises."
