Orion, "Actively Cooperating in Investigation of Female Employee Death at Iksan Factory... Will Accept Responsibility"
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Orion has released an official statement regarding the death of a female employee at its Iksan factory that occurred on March 17.
On the 21st, Orion stated in its statement, "First, we express our deepest condolences to the deceased and her bereaved family," and added, "The company and all employees deeply regret this incident."
Orion explained the delay in issuing the statement by saying that since the Ministry of Employment and Labor is currently conducting an investigation into the incident, the company is very cautious about commenting. Nevertheless, due to the recent numerous reports related to this incident, the company judged that it could no longer delay the announcement of its position.
Orion emphasized that it is actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The company stated that it will take full responsibility if there are any parts for which it is accountable based on the investigation results, and if any employees are found to be at fault, strict measures will be taken according to laws and regulations.
However, according to the two previous police investigations, the company maintains that there is no direct connection between the deceased’s motive for suicide and the company. An internal investigation also concluded that while there were some rigid organizational cultures within the factory that posed problems, the motive for the extreme choice was tentatively determined to lie outside the company. Orion asked for understanding, stating, "Regarding this matter, due to the honor of those involved and the private nature of personal issues, we cannot disclose details through this statement."
Additionally, the sexual harassment incident from October 2018, which was raised recently, occurred one year and seven months ago. At that time, Orion was reportedly unaware of the incident. Upon the bereaved family’s recent complaint, the company recognized the issue and immediately launched an investigation, with procedures for investigation and disciplinary action currently underway. Orion promised, "We will handle this matter strictly and transparently disclose the investigation results and details to the bereaved family."

Orion stated, "Through the investigation of this incident, we realized that there was no appropriate person to whom the deceased could easily express difficulties related to work," and added, "We discovered some rigid organizational cultures within the factory and will work on reforming them through continuous education and guidance." The company also plans to continue efforts to improve the working environment.
