Nakdonggang Regional Environmental Office Implements Algal Bloom Warning System at 5 Sites ... Proactive Response to Green Algae Damage
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office (hereinafter Nakdong River Office) announced on the 21st that it will implement the Algae Warning System at a total of five points, including the newly added Mulgeum and Maeri points.
The Nakdong River Office will enter full-scale algae warning response mode by predicting and presenting the amount of algae expected to occur over the next seven days at two points, Chilseo and Mulgeum·Maeri, as well as Jinyangho, Sayunho, and Hoeyaho.
The Algae Warning System has been implemented since 1998 to quickly transmit information about algae occurrences in rivers and lakes used as water sources to water intake and treatment plants, minimizing damage caused by algae and ensuring the stability of water sources.
The newly added Mulgeum and Maeri points for the Algae Warning System have multiple water intake plants nearby, including Mulgeum, Wondong, and Maeri, so it is expected that the implementation of the warning system will enable faster responses at nearby water intake and treatment plants.
At the Chilseo and Maeri·Mulgeum points, a three-dimensional hydraulic and hydrological numerical model is linked with real-time forecast and observation data of weather, flow rate, and water quality to predict the amount of algae expected over the next seven days. The predicted information will be disclosed to local residents and shared with related organizations to proactively respond to algae occurrences.
