[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, together with Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo, will preside over the first preparatory committee meeting for the 'UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting' to be held in Seoul next year at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 22nd.
On the 21st, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kim In-cheol stated this during a regular briefing, explaining, "The UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting, which will be held for the fourth time since its launch in 2016, is a major high-level meeting in the UN peacekeeping field attended by representatives of member countries of the UN General Assembly's Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations."
Through this preparatory meeting, plans for promoting the ministerial meeting preparation among related ministries and agencies, including collaboration methods, will be discussed.
Regarding the escalating US-China conflict, such as the recent US government sanctions against the Chinese IT company Huawei, the situation is being closely monitored.
Spokesperson Kim said, "Relevant departments are closely monitoring the respective areas of responsibility," adding, "Economic conflicts between the US and China are also being discussed and reviewed at the Foreign Strategy Coordination Meeting, and various preparations are underway to activate the coordination meeting."
In response to reports that the Russian ambassador to North Korea mentioned that North Korea-US dialogue is unlikely before the November presidential election and that North Korea does not attach much significance to it, he said, "We are actively consulting based on Korea-US cooperation for substantial progress in the Korean Peninsula peace process," and "We plan to secure support and cooperation for our peace process by closely communicating with related countries including the US."
Meanwhile, regarding President Moon Jae-in's pledge of 100 million dollars in humanitarian aid mentioned at the World Health Assembly (WHA), it was revealed that 23 million dollars have already been provided.
