Gyeonggi-do Launches Freelance Survey... First Nationwide
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is conducting a 'Freelancer Survey' to improve the working environment of freelancers and establish practical support measures. This is the first survey on freelancers conducted by Gyeonggi Province.
This survey aims to prepare support measures for freelancers who are in a legal protection blind spot.
Until now, freelancers, despite having a status similar to workers, have not been recognized as workers under current labor laws such as the Labor Standards Act, and have suffered from unfair practices and other damages.
In this survey, the province will investigate the scale by industry, working conditions, contracts, income, remuneration, and other major unfair practices related to freelancers in the province, and prepare corresponding support measures.
The province plans to identify the scale by industry by July, complete the survey, and publish the final report by October after setting policy directions and consulting experts.
Along with this survey, the province will also hold expert forums and meetings related to the working conditions of freelancers active in the province.
Furthermore, within this year, Gyeonggi Province will establish a comprehensive support plan for freelancers that can provide practical help and prepare a standard contract form.
Kim Ji-ye, head of the Fair Economy Division of the province, stated, "This survey is to establish an institutional safety net for freelancers active in the province," and added, "We will conduct a thorough investigation to prepare support policies that can provide practical help for the livelihood stability of freelancers."
