Jeonnam Provincial Councilor Kang Mun-seong's 'COP28 Hosting' Leap to Advanced Climate and Environmental Nation
Jeonnam Province Urges Establishment of Climate Change Response Strategies for Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Fine Dust Mitigation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Kang Munseong, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Council, announced on the 20th that he raised questions about the necessity of hosting COP28 and greenhouse gas reduction at the 2nd plenary session of the 341st extraordinary meeting.
Assemblyman Kang emphasized the necessity of hosting by stating, "We must definitely host COP (Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) to develop Yeosu as a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry hub and establish the southern coastal Namjung region as an international leader in climate and environmental advancement."
He continued, "To host COP, Jeonnam Province must promote climate change response strategies, greenhouse gas reduction targets, and mitigation policies at the provincial level."
Additionally, Assemblyman Kang mentioned the necessity of "promoting research and development and expansion of renewable energy for greenhouse gas reduction in areas densely populated with industrial complexes" and "infrastructure establishment such as installing specialized institutions capable of systematically managing efficient energy policies."
Governor Kim Youngrok responded, "The Jeonnam Green Energy Research Institute is conducting research and development of renewable energy, creating an energy valley, and supporting Jeonnam Province's energy policies," adding, "We will strive to systematically manage our province's climate change and energy policies."
