Police Agency Appoints Seo Ji-hyun and 12 Others to 'Women's Safety Policy Advisory Group'
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] On the afternoon of the 20th, the National Police Agency held an appointment ceremony for the 'Women’s Safety Policy Advisory Group' at the police headquarters in Migeun-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
The Women’s Safety Policy Advisory Group is responsible for advising on the overall women’s safety policies promoted by the National Police Agency to realize a "society where women are safe."
At the event, 13 experts from the legal community, academia, and women’s organizations were appointed as advisory members, including Prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun, who was the starting point of the 'Me Too' movement; Chief Judge Kang Sung-soo, who presided over the first trial of the group sexual assault case involving singer Jung Joon-young and Choi Jong-hoon; and Lawyer Jang Yoon-jung, who represented the sexual assault victim of former Chungnam Governor Ahn Hee-jung.
The advisory group will hold regular meetings once every quarter to advise on major women’s safety policies and the enactment and revision of laws related to women’s safety. In addition, it plans to hold ad hoc meetings to discuss timely response measures when major issues such as the 'Telegram Nth Room' case arise.

Jang Ha-yeon, Deputy Commissioner of the National Police Agency, who attended the appointment ceremony, said, "If we unite under the shared goal of women’s safety, I believe a 'society where women are safe' will soon be realized." He added, "We will continue to do our best to identify and eliminate risk factors that threaten women’s safety in advance and to comfort and soothe the pain of victims."
