Ulsan Launches Marine Cluster Project... Leading the 4th Industrial Revolution at Sea
Establishment of Autonomous Ship and Maritime Navigation Test Verification System
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] Ulsan City will hold a kickoff briefing for the "International Maritime Digital Cluster Construction Project Planning Research Service" at 2 p.m. on the 20th in the conference room of Ulsan Port Authority.
The International Maritime Digital Cluster is a cooperative system where the international community jointly tests and verifies next-generation maritime safety comprehensive management systems such as e-Navigation adopted by the International Maritime Organization, autonomous ships, and hyper-connected platforms for ship and port logistics, applying 4th Industrial Revolution technologies in the maritime sector in actual waters. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has been promoting this since last year.
This research service by the city aims to identify and plan projects related to technology development and infrastructure construction for the International Maritime Digital Cluster, with a total project cost of 235 million KRW, to be completed by the end of October.
The main tasks include analyzing domestic and international trends and environments of ICT-related shipbuilding, marine, and port industries; analyzing the current status of communication technology development related to domestic smart ships and port industries; analyzing the current status of domestic autonomous ship technology development and smart port industries; presenting a vision for the world's leading smart shipbuilding, marine industry, and port logistics industry; establishing plans for an international certification and verification center for autonomous ships; and preparing test plans linked to the construction of autonomous ship and digital port infrastructure applicable to smart communication technology.
