Government "Welcomes Agreement on Afghan 'Political Accord'"... Expects Progress in Peace Process
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed a welcoming stance on the signing of a 'political agreement' on the 17th by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, the second-in-command of the regime and former Chief Executive of Afghanistan.
On the 19th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a spokesperson's statement, "The government hopes that based on this agreement, Afghanistan's domestic political situation will stabilize, internal negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban will promptly commence, and the peace process in Afghanistan will progress."
According to this agreement, a 'High Government Council' for forming political consensus in Afghanistan and a 'High-Level National Reconciliation Committee' to lead future negotiations with the Taliban will be established.
