Seongdong-gu, Employee Union, and Merchant Association Sign Agreement for 'Good Consumption' Disaster Relief Funds Spent at Traditional Markets... Employees Promote Consumption Activities via SNS... District Mayor Jung Won-oh, Deputy Mayor Han Young-hee, and Senior Officials Donate to Food Bank Market
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] About 1,600 employees of Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) are carrying out a voluntary consumption campaign called ‘With Family! With Neighbors! Good Consumption Movement’ together with local traditional markets.
On the 19th, the 7th floor Strategy Planning Office of Seongdong-gu Office hosted a meeting where Seongdong-gu, the Seongdong-gu Public Officials’ Union, and the Seongdong-gu Merchants’ Association gathered in one place. This was for the ‘Agreement to Support the Revitalization of Traditional Markets through Government Disaster Relief Fund Consumption.’ All Seongdong-gu public officials and the union will designate at least one ‘Traditional Market Day’ per week to purchase office supplies and daily necessities using the government’s emergency disaster relief funds.
The district had already established a ‘One Department, One Market’ sisterhood agreement with a total of 11 traditional markets and shopping districts within the region on the 6th to revitalize traditional markets.
Through this agreement, employees will visit traditional markets in relay according to each department’s schedule to spend the disaster relief funds, and after the activity, post certification photos on personal SNS such as Instagram and Facebook to encourage the spread of the good consumption movement.
A district official said, “We hope that the good consumption by Seongdong-gu employees will serve as an opportunity to promote traditional market consumption among residents and expand into a consumption movement shared by neighbors.”
Additionally, Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, and Han Young-hee, Deputy Mayor, will donate the entire amount of their emergency disaster relief funds as daily necessities such as pork belly and rice to the Food Bank Market. Senior officials at grade 5 and above will also participate in donations with part of their relief funds, providing daily necessities to a total of 400 vulnerable households including elderly living alone.

The Food Bank Market is a place that provides food, clothing, and other daily necessities free of charge to socially vulnerable groups, supported by companies, organizations, and residents. Currently, about 1,000 residents and 41 social welfare facilities use the service, and it also offers home delivery for elderly people with mobility difficulties.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I am grateful that employees, who are working hard on the front lines amid COVID-19, are also participating in the good consumption movement for the local commercial district. I hope that the good consumption by employees will help local small business owners even a little, and that this positive influence will spread to neighbors and become a great force for revitalizing the local economy.”
