Fire at LG Chem Seosan Catalyst Center... 1 Dead, 2 Burned (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] At around 2:19 PM on the 19th, a fire broke out with an explosion sound at the Catalyst Operation Team of the Catalyst Center in LG Chem, Daesan Industrial Complex, Daesan-eup, Seosan-si, Chungnam. One employee at the scene died in the accident, and two others were transferred to a nearby hospital with second-degree burns on their face and neck.
The fire department, which responded to the report, extinguished the fire within about 10 minutes.
It was reported that the fire occurred due to an explosion caused by excessive pressure during the transfer of catalysts in the catalyst production process.
The fire department confirmed that there was no leakage of hazardous chemicals. Currently, the facility is in a shutdown state.
LG Chem explained that immediately after the accident occurred, the factory's own fire brigade and an ambulance were dispatched to the site for initial response.
LG Chem stated, "We will do our best to manage the accident and take full responsibility for the recovery of the injured," adding, "We will strive to prevent recurrence by investigating the facts and analyzing the cause."
