On the 19th, Xinhua News Agency reported that at around 9:47 PM local time the previous day, a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred near Chaojia County, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province. The depth of the epicenter was 8,000 meters. At around 4:35 AM on the same day, a magnitude 3.5 aftershock also occurred at the same location.

Xinhua News Agency reported that as of 5 AM that day, 2 people had died and 13 were injured due to the earthquake. It also explained that public security, firefighters, and emergency rescue personnel are currently conducting urgent rescue operations at the earthquake damage site.
