The Highest Increase Rate of Regular Employees in Large Corporations is Hanwha Group
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] Among domestic large business groups, Hanwha Group has been identified as the one that increased its number of regular employees the most over the past year.
On the 19th, Infovics, a specialized data service for large business groups, analyzed the first quarter reports of listed companies belonging to 33 domestic large business groups. According to the analysis, the number of regular employees at Hanwha Group’s listed companies (based on 7 companies excluding Hanwha Systems, which was newly listed last year) stood at 21,064 as of the end of March, marking a 16.8% (3,036 employees) increase compared to a year ago, ranking first in growth rate.
By affiliate, the number of regular employees at Hanwha Solutions increased significantly from 2,449 to 5,545, a rise of 3,096 employees, while Hanwha Life Insurance also saw an increase from 3,890 to 4,005 employees, adding 115 employees.
Hanwha Investment & Securities and Hanwha also experienced slight increases in their number of regular employees.
Other groups with high growth rates in regular employees included Youngpoong Group (9.4%), Harim Group (6.2%), Lotte Group (6.0%), KT&G Group (3.9%), and SK Group (3.2%).
On the other hand, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Group (-5.6%), Daelim Group (-4.7%), HDC Group (-4.7%), and Hyundai Department Store (-2.9%) saw decreases in their number of regular employees compared to last year.
Meanwhile, excluding financial groups, HDC Group recorded the highest increase in average employee salary in the first quarter compared to last year (total salary paid during the period / number of employees paid).
HDC Group’s average salary in the first quarter was approximately 24.7 million KRW, up 44.9% from 17 million KRW last year.
Other groups with significant increases in first quarter average salary included Kakao (23.40%), Shinsegae (9.9%), and Hyundai Motor Group (9.1%).

Conversely, SK Group’s average salary in the first quarter was about 33.5 million KRW, down 31.9% from 49.2 million KRW last year, marking the largest decrease among large business groups.
