Jilin City, China, Expands COVID-19 High-Risk Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] A new high-risk area for COVID-19 has been designated in Jilin Province, China.
According to Jilin Province's COVID-19 prevention authorities on the 18th, Fengman District in Jilin City, which reported 3 new confirmed cases on the 16th, was upgraded from a medium-risk area to a high-risk area on the 17th.
This upgrade is the second within the province, following Suilan City.
The Jilin City authorities have already announced that they will conduct prevention activities across the entire city as if it were a 'high-risk' area.
With the upgrade to a high-risk area, residents of Fengman District face strict movement restrictions. According to the authorities, lockdown-style management and enhanced infection testing have been implemented in residential areas of Fengman District, and external vehicle access to residential areas has been prohibited. Additionally, only one person per household is allowed to go out daily at a designated time to purchase daily necessities.
Furthermore, residents must obtain a certificate from the Residents' Committee to leave the village, and if traveling outside Jilin City, they must submit a negative COVID-19 test result obtained within 48 hours.
Operations of multi-use facilities such as tourist sites, theaters, and bathhouses, as well as group events, have all been suspended. Restaurants are only allowed to provide delivery services. Department stores, electronics and furniture stores, except supermarkets, must also close.
As of the 17th, among the 34 confirmed cases in Jilin Province due to recent community transmission, Suilan City has the highest number with 19 cases, followed by Fengman District in Jilin Province with 12 cases. Chuaning District and Changyi District in Jilin City reported 2 and 1 cases respectively.
Starting at noon on the same day, Suilan City began 'full lockdown management' of residential areas where confirmed and suspected cases have been reported. In principle, all movement is prohibited, and daily necessities are supplied via delivery.
In residential areas without confirmed cases, only one person per household is allowed to go out once every two days to purchase goods.
