[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] The elected representatives of the 21st general election in the Ulsan region, affiliated with the United Future Party, announced that they will voluntarily donate the entire amount of the emergency disaster relief fund to vulnerable groups in the region.
United Future Party elected officials Park Seong-min, Lee Chae-ik, Kim Ki-hyun, Kwon Myung-ho, and Seo Beom-su held a joint press conference on the 18th and promised, "Instead of forced donations by the government, we will receive the disaster relief funds and use them as originally intended to support small business owners and revitalize the local economy."
They explained, "The nationwide emergency disaster relief fund, introduced by the government during the general election period, has raised concerns among politicians and many experts that while it may have a temporary effect on economic stimulus, it will end as a one-time event, so the virtuous cycle effect of economic revitalization will not be significant. However, it is true that the United Future Party also contributed to help citizens who are currently struggling to some extent."
They criticized, "However, the Moon Jae-in administration, eager only to distribute funds with the intention of influencing the general election, failed to devise measures to provide more support to vulnerable groups directly affected by COVID-19, such as the self-employed and small business owners. As a means to compensate for this, the government has reached an absurd situation of coercing donations under the pretext of voluntary contributions."
