Support of 5 Dental Masks Each for 380,000 Disabled People in Seoul
A Total of 2 Million Copies to Be Mailed to Residences Starting from the 19th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul City announced on the 17th that it will provide 5 masks per person to disabled individuals who urgently need assistance amid growing concerns over the resurgence of community infections due to cluster outbreaks of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at Itaewon clubs, Hongdae pubs, and other locations.
The support targets 385,846 disabled persons registered in Seoul, with a total of 2 million masks to be mailed starting from the 19th, providing 5 masks per person.
As the recent rise in temperature has led to an early heatwave and a surge in demand for dental masks, the city decided to supply dental masks secured through overseas imports this time. The masks have been confirmed by the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment to have a dust collection efficiency (particle blocking performance) of 70% or higher according to KF standards.
Since March, Seoul City has been operating the ‘Seoul City Quarantine Supplies Task Force’ to fully respond to the supply of COVID-19 response quarantine supplies, securing masks, hand sanitizers, thermometers, protective suits, and other quarantine items to support medical institutions such as screening clinics, as well as vulnerable groups including pregnant women, mobile workers, daycare centers, nursing facilities, jjokbangchon (small room villages), and multi-use facilities.

Kim Hak-jin, Director of Seoul City’s Safety General Office, said, "We hope this mask support will be of some help to disabled individuals who have difficulty moving," adding, "To prevent the community spread of COVID-19 originating from Itaewon clubs and to establish social distancing in daily life, we will continue to provide quarantine supplies to high-risk occupational groups and vulnerable populations."
