Dongshin University Late Bloomer PhD Students in Their 60s and Their Advisors Jointly Donate Development Funds
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Ahead of the 39th Teacher's Day, a warm-hearted moment was shared at Dongshin University when a 60-year-old late-blooming doctoral graduate and his supervising professor jointly donated a development fund to the university.
According to Dongshin University on the 14th, Park Kyung-jun (63), chairman of Haeam Co., Ltd., who earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration last February, and his advisor, Song Kyung-yong, dean of the graduate school and professor of Tourism Management, held a development fund donation ceremony.
Chairman Park enrolled as a mature student at Dongshin University's general graduate school in 2014, earned his master's degree in Business Administration in 2016, and began his doctoral program that same year, receiving his Ph.D. within three years.
Dean Song has been Park's supervising professor from his master's through his doctoral studies, maintaining a close relationship.
Recently, ahead of Teacher's Day, Chairman Park expressed his intention to donate 5 million KRW to the department's development fund, saying he wanted to convey his gratitude to the university and the department and encourage students who have been struggling due to COVID-19.
In response, Dean Song decided to donate one month's salary to the department's development fund to reciprocate the heartfelt gesture of his late-blooming student.
Chairman Park said, "Everyone wants to feel a sense of belonging, and since I gained so much by earning my master's and doctoral degrees at Dongshin University, I cannot help but love Dongshin."
He continued, advising juniors, "Follow your professors' teachings well and do your best no matter where you are. Relationships are important. Whether between teacher and student or friends, I hope you become someone who earns trust."
Dean Song stated, "He is someone who has personally shown that the passion for learning knows no age and never grows old," and added, "As his supervising professor, I am rather grateful to share such a good intention."
