[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A petition to the Blue House demanding the dismissal of a teacher who assigned underwear washing as homework to first-grade elementary school students and made inappropriate remarks has gained over 200,000 signatures, meeting the Blue House response criteria.
On the 28th of last month, a petition titled "Please dismiss the male teacher who assigned first-grade elementary school students in Ulsan to wash their underwear as homework and sexually harassed students by commenting 'sexy panties,' 'princess shyly clear,' and 'charming and sexy 00' on their photos" was posted on the Blue House petition board. As of 1:20 PM today (the 14th), the petition has received 203,026 signatures.
The petitioner stated, "Teacher A created a group chat with parents on SNS right after online classes began and asked them to upload students' photos. He repeatedly left sexually objectifying comments on the photos of female students. Even after the education support office, which received reports, conveyed the issue to Teacher A, he assigned homework to wash underwear and continued to sexually objectify and harass the children," criticizing the teacher's behavior.
They continued, "Elementary school teachers must have a much more sensitive awareness of human rights, and their gender sensitivity should be exemplary," expressing concern that "if Teacher A remains in the classroom, children will learn sexual harassment without any hesitation."
They added, "If this is handled leniently again, I firmly believe Teacher A will become a greater sex offender and cause irreparable harm to the children," demanding, "Please dismiss Teacher A so that children in this country can live in safe and clean schools without fear of violence."
