Engaging Youth in Improving the Educational Environment of Nowon-gu Schools
Recruitment open until the 24th for youth aged 13-24 residing in Nowon-gu or attending local schools... Around 20 youth committee members to be selected after individual interviews... Participate in planning and organizing youth projects through regular meetings starting June
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will involve youth in the public education innovation project, where the district and local residents collaborate to transform the educational environment.
This decision was made based on the judgment that the current ‘Youth Subcommittee,’ operated as part of the Nowon Innovation Education District project, is centered on officials, limiting the direct reflection of opinions from the youth themselves, who are the main stakeholders.
The Youth Subcommittee participants are youths aged 13 to 24 who either reside in Nowon-gu or attend schools within the district.
The number of selected members is around 20, prioritizing applicants’ willingness to participate, sincerity, and proactiveness.
To apply, applicants must fill out an application form and a consent form for the use of personal information, then submit them by visiting the District Office’s Education Support Division, via email (hihellohi@nowon.go.kr), or by registered mail.
The application period is until the 24th of this month, with individual interviews conducted on the 30th, and the selection results will be notified on the 6th of next month.
Selected members will participate in regular meetings held on the last Saturday of each month starting in June. Based on the outcomes of these meetings, they will plan and design youth projects.
They may also directly participate in the Nowon Innovation Education District projects conducted by schools or institutions, provide opinions, and take part in various events such as fairs and project sharing sessions.
There will also be an end-of-year activity evaluation session for projects planned by the Youth Subcommittee. Benefits for members include recognition of volunteer hours on the 1365 Volunteer Portal site and receiving volunteer certificates.
As part of the Nowon Innovation Education District project, the district also supports youth club activities. Youth clubs consist of three or more youths aged 13 to 18 who independently select themes and plan and operate club activities. Last year, 27.5 million KRW was provided to 55 youth club teams, and this year, support will expand to 78 teams.
