Remote K-6 Did Not Operate During GP Response Fire.
[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] On the 3rd, the North Korean military fired shots at our surveillance post (GP) in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) of the central front in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, but it was confirmed that the remote firing of the K-6 machine gun by our military did not operate properly.
According to military officials on the 13th, North Korea fired shots toward our GP at around 7:41 a.m. on the 3rd. At that time, personnel on duty detected bullet impacts on the outer wall of our military GP building. The personnel pressed the emergency bell to notify all soldiers at the GP of the shooting, and by 7:45 a.m., all soldiers were deployed to the site.
At that time, Sergeant A, the deputy GP commander, confirmed three bullet holes and reported this to the battalion commander at 7:56 a.m. The battalion commander ordered a counterattack. However, when the GP commander attempted to fire the K-6 at 8:01 a.m., the firing did not occur due to a malfunction of the firing pin. The K-6 assistant gunner performed emergency repairs three times on site, but firing was unsuccessful. Consequently, the regiment commander ordered a counterattack with the K-3 machine gun at 8:03 a.m. Subsequently, the division commander instructed to manually fire the K-6, a 14.5mm anti-aircraft weapon, and the military fired the K-6 additionally.

A military official stated regarding the possibility of accidental firing, "Considering the timing of the North Korean military’s mission rotation, farming activities, and the fact that they were moving around without helmets, it is judged to be accidental. We have also identified circumstances supporting that it was an accidental situation." Regarding the controversy over the on-site commander, the official explained, "The term 'commander' refers to those at the company commander level or higher, and the on-site commander refers to the battalion commander."
