SKC Selected as the 14th Caring Company
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] SKC has been selected as the 14th "Jasanghan" (Caring) company following Naver, POSCO, and others. A Jasanghan company refers to a voluntary win-win cooperation company that shares the strengths of infrastructure, win-win programs, and know-how owned by companies and institutions?not limited to traditional first-tier suppliers?with partner companies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), small business owners, and even non-trading companies.
On the 13th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that it signed a business agreement at Tipstown in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, together with SKC, Korea Startup Forum, and Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Kibo) to "build a win-win ecosystem through fair technology transactions and open innovation."
The business agreement involves providing intellectual property (IP) of SMEs and startups to the domestic large corporation SKC, which in turn supports R&D and management innovation.
When SKC provides demand technology to Kibo under a confidentiality agreement, Kibo, which manages over 100,000 SMEs, entrusts and intermediates technology transactions from SMEs whose technology SKC wishes to purchase. In this case, the trust system means that when the trust institution receives patent rights for excellent corporate technologies, it provides services such as patent management, technology transaction brokerage, and technology dispute response for the SMEs that entrusted the patent rights.
SKC supports overall business improvement for startups and SMEs by utilizing its open platform based on new material technologies.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups provides legal and institutional support to build a win-win ecosystem.
The Korea Startup Forum, with about 1,330 member companies, participates as an institution in SKC’s open platform, linking SMEs and startups to the platform.
Lee Wan-jae, President of SKC, said, “Since 2017, SKC has been operating an open platform based on new material technologies, and we have felt a sense of fulfillment and pride by helping the growth of promising material companies with technological capabilities through shared competencies and win-win cooperation. Taking this agreement as an opportunity, we will work hard to build a healthy material business ecosystem in cooperation with Kibo and the Korea Startup Forum.”
Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said, “If startups and SMEs receive fair compensation and transfer excellent technologies to large corporations, and large corporations can easily utilize SME technology information, it will become a model case of win-win cooperation where everyone benefits. At a time when everyone, including SMEs and small business owners, is struggling due to COVID-19 and Japanese export regulations, if we show mutual consideration like today, our people will be able to rise again quickly.”
