View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) will conduct the ‘2020 First Half Software Education’ online, consisting of a total of six programs in the fields of robotics, 3D modeling, and coding.
The online implementation of this first half software education is in consideration of the difficulty of face-to-face education in indoor spaces due to COVID-19, and will be conducted through YouTube and a site established by Hongik University.
First, for robotics education, it is divided into the ‘Lego WeDo’ course for 5th and 6th grade elementary school students and the ‘Lego EV3 (Basic/Advanced)’ course for 5th and 6th grade elementary and middle school students, utilizing videos created by local elementary and middle school teachers.
The ‘Lego WeDo’ education, conducted over five sessions, is a course where students assemble and operate robots using WeDo robots and learn block coding through missions.
Therefore, students must own the Lego WeDo product to take the course.
The ‘Lego EV3 (Basic/Advanced)’ education is conducted over ten sessions, divided into basic and advanced levels, where students create robots as they wish, code them to operate using various sensors, and complete missions. Unlike the Lego WeDo course, even if students do not have Lego EV3 for practice, a simulation program called Virtual Toolkit is provided free of charge for two months, allowing them to take the course using it.
Both lectures have been available since the 8th through the YouTube channel ‘Mapo Creative Software Competition,’ and can be taken without separate registration.
The ‘3D Modeling’ course will be held every Saturday for eight weeks from May 23 to July 11. For the elementary division, 30 students in 5th and 6th grades will practice 3D design using Tinkercad, and for the middle school division, 30 middle school students will practice design using Fusion360.
The ‘3D Modeling’ lectures will be conducted live online, and applicants will be recruited through the Mapo-gu Office website from May 13 to 19.
Meanwhile, for ‘Coding Education,’ a basic block coding class using RoboMaster will be held every Saturday from May 23 to June 13 for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade elementary students, and an advanced class will be operated for six weeks starting June 27 for students who have completed the basic class.
The coding basic class can be taken online simply by applying through the application site (https://forms.gle/yGL6TnWgBFYxYsav8).

Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “Although software education is being conducted through online lectures due to COVID-19, we have prepared excellent high-quality lectures to increase participants’ interest and satisfaction, so we hope many students will participate.”
