Starting with some models scheduled for release in the second half of next year, it will be installed as a standard feature in all new Volvo cars sold domestically in the future.
On the 11th, SK Telecom announced that it signed a 'Joint Development Agreement for Integrated In-Vehicle Infotainment Service Technology' with Volvo Cars Korea, focusing on joint development and cooperation of the integrated IVI. This is the first time SK Telecom's integrated IVI will be installed in mass-produced cars sold in Korea. The company expects this to be an opportunity for SK Telecom's mobility ecosystem to expand in earnest.
IVI collectively refers to driving information and entertainment for vehicle occupants. SK Telecom's integrated IVI is characterized by providing various services owned by the company, such as T map Auto, AI platform NUGU, and music platform FLO, optimized with a UX (user experience) tailored to each manufacturer's vehicle environment.
First, it supports real-time navigation via T map and various connectivity functions on Volvo Cars' instrument panel and head-up display (HUD) for the driver. In addition to T map voice-guided navigation and infotainment functions such as encyclopedia and smart home, it also allows control of air conditioning and radio. When using FLO, even in driving situations where individual song selection is difficult, playlists can be played using voice commands alone.
Furthermore, various additional services reflecting customer needs are provided, such as real-time location information including available charging stations and parking lots, weather and fine dust checks at departure and destination points, and guidance on optimal routes based on the current battery status. All service apps provided through the integrated IVI are updated via wireless networks, allowing drivers to always use the latest features without visiting service centers.
SK Telecom plans to apply 5G to the integrated IVI in the future and will discuss with Volvo the possibility of providing ultra-high-definition large-capacity media services in real time inside vehicles.
