"Lotte Department Store Sells Limited Edition Sneakers 'Runstar Hike' at 3-4 Times Resell Price"
Applying Offline Draw Method
to Reduce COVID-19 Risk
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] A limited edition sneaker product that gained explosive popularity among domestic 1020 Converse enthusiasts will be released at Lotte Department Store.
Lotte Department Store announced on the 10th that it will release the limited edition Converse brand product ‘Run Star Hike’ in limited quantities at the main store and Busan main store Converse pop-up shops for 109,000 KRW and 115,000 KRW respectively on the 11th. After a lottery from the 11th to the 13th, actual sales will take place from the 15th to the 21st.
The Run Star Hike, which has the same design as the ‘Converse X JWA collaboration’ product sold last December, features a distinctive star patch and silhouette. It combines the Chuck Taylor upper with a thick outsole inspired by the zigzag ‘rugged hiking boots’ and is enhanced with various colors.
Moreover, except for the color difference on the outsole at the back of the sneaker compared to the Converse x JWA collaboration product, the selling price is about 50,000 KRW lower than the JWA product, earning it the nickname ‘entry-level.’ Despite being called entry-level, it is sold in limited quantities, so market supply is not abundant.
Additionally, an offline draw (lottery) method is applied to allow customers to purchase the product safely despite concerns about COVID-19. Lotte Department Store will release the product through an offline draw method at the Myeongdong main store and Busan main store starting on the 11th. From 12 PM on the 11th to the 13th, customers can visit the 7th floor Converse pop-up store at the Lotte Department Store main branch and the 5th floor Converse pop-up store at the Busan main branch to enter the lottery, and winners will be announced at 10 AM on the 15th. Winning customers can purchase the product at the store until the 21st.
For the ‘Converse X JWA collaboration’ product released last December, about 400 customers lined up before opening on the day of sale, and all prepared quantities sold out within five hours of the sale start. The online resale price rose to about 3 to 4 times the normal selling price, showing significant interest.
