Italy Sees New COVID-19 Cases Drop to the 1,000s Range
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The surge in Italy, once considered a major epicenter of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has noticeably slowed down. The number of new confirmed cases has dropped to the low 1,000s.
According to the international statistics site Worldometer on the 9th (local time), Italy reported 1,083 new COVID-19 cases and 194 deaths. The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Italy is 218,268, with 30,395 deaths.
The previous day, Italy had 1,327 new confirmed cases and 243 deaths. Since peaking in mid-last month, Italy has shown a trend of gradually decreasing new confirmed cases.
Italy ranks third in COVID-19 deaths, following the United States and Spain.
