KOICA Shares 'K-Quarantine' with Developing Countries... Opens COVID-19 Information Hub
Establishing a Consistent and Systematic Knowledge Hub for Development Cooperation
Covering Reports from the Korean Government and International Organizations, Data, and Various Media Resources at a Glance
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) will open the 'COVID-19 Information Hub' on the 7th to share South Korea's experience in responding to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with developing countries.
While COVID-19 cases in South Korea continue to stabilize, the virus is still spreading rapidly in some developing countries. Although various guidelines, initiatives, and data related to COVID-19 have been released domestically and internationally due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a lack of systematic information services for development cooperation that are needed locally in developing countries.
Accordingly, KOICA has established the COVID-19 Information Hub to help developing countries, which lack sufficient infectious disease response capabilities, effectively overcome the crisis caused by COVID-19.
The COVID-19 Information Hub is a website where one can view domestic and international information necessary to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, including South Korea's COVID-19 response experience, all in one place. It provides a variety of information ranging from reports by our government and international organizations to data and various media materials at a glance.
The main categories provided are △Global Actions (Overseas Response Status) △Korea Responses (Domestic Response Status) △KOICA Responses (KOICA Response Status) △Suggestions, among others.
KOICA plans to focus on providing information necessary for local COVID-19 responses, such as policies and South Korea's K-Quarantine experience, which are needed by public health and medical officials and policymakers in developing countries.
Additionally, KOICA will prepare a menu that enables interactive communication with officials from developing countries to listen to the difficulties they face in responding to COVID-19 and strive for joint support.
The COVID-19 Information Hub is freely accessible not only to officials from developing countries but also to Korean citizens interested in COVID-19 and infectious disease responses.
Jae-shin Park, Director of KOICA's Business Strategy and Asia Headquarters, stated, "There is high demand in many developing countries for South Korea's COVID-19 response know-how, known as 'K-Quarantine,' including △rapid response △3T strategy (Testing·Tracing·Treating) △citizen awareness." He added, "KOICA will actively promote the COVID-19 Information Hub through its network of 44 overseas offices and partnerships with major domestic and international health institutions, and will continuously provide COVID-19 response information from a development cooperation perspective for domestic and international stakeholders and developing countries."
