Chungnam to Acquire 1,000ha of Forest Land... Increasing Public and Economic Value through Expansion of Provincial Forests
[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is set to expand its provincial forests through the purchase of private forests. The expansion of provincial forests is being pursued to enhance public and economic value.
The province announced on the 6th that it plans to purchase 1,000 hectares of forestland within the province over the next 10 years and intends to sell or exchange 232 hectares of properties deemed unsuitable for preservation.
The purchase targets include forests necessary for efficient management such as expanding and consolidating provincial forests, or forests surrounded by existing provincial forests. Additionally, forests of 5 hectares or more that can be consolidated or have location conditions suitable for provincial forest management are also included in the purchase targets.
However, forests with established private rights such as mortgages or superficies, those with standing timber registration, forests where all co-owners have not consented to sale, or forests involved in ongoing litigation are excluded from purchase targets.
The province expects that if the private forest purchases proceed as planned, Chungnam will secure provincial forests ranking around fourth nationwide.
Earlier, on the 4th, the province announced the private forest purchase plan for next year. Sale applications can be submitted year-round; in Taean-gun, applications can be made through the Forest Resources Research Institute Taean Office, and in other cities and counties, through the Forest Resources Research Institute Boryeong Office. Further details can be obtained through the provincial Forest Resources Division.
The expansion of provincial forests will focus on increasing the value of forests by creating nectar source forests and securing forest carbon sinks.
