In the Era of Decentralization, How Will Eunpyeong-gu Prepare?
Eunpyeong-gu Hosts Lecture on Autonomy and Decentralization Policy Cases with Government and Other Local Governments
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) and the Eunpyeong-gu Cooperative Governance Council (Co-Chairman Choi Seung-guk) will hold a lecture series sharing cases of decentralization policies from the central government and local governments every Monday at 7 PM for four weeks starting May 11, in the large conference room on the 7th floor of the district office.
This lecture series consists of four consecutive sessions, beginning with policy trends of the central government from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, followed by the planning and achievements of Dongbu government policies from Jung-gu Office in Seoul, the resident autonomy council and citizen sovereignty council of Sejong Special Self-Governing City, and the Incheon-type resident autonomy council model of Incheon Metropolitan City.
The program was planned by the Public-Private Joint Planning Group for Creating Cooperative Governance Structures at the Dong (neighborhood) level under the Eunpyeong-gu Cooperative Governance Council. This public-private governance was formed to establish a resident-led cooperative governance base at the village level, develop a long-term roadmap for resident autonomy and decentralization at the Dong level, and support consistent promotion of decentralization regardless of environmental changes.
This decentralization policy lecture series is the first step toward establishing an Eunpyeong-type model based on understanding the achievements and challenges of advanced cases.
An official from Eunpyeong-gu stated about this lecture series, “We carefully selected central and local governments conducting innovative policy experiments to open this lecture series,” adding, “It will be a valuable time to learn what we need to do by harmonizing with central policy directions and drawing lessons from cases of other local governments with similar conditions.”
